Avengers: Infinity War Concept Art Envisions Thor Finding Stormbreaker, Not Creating It

The internet is currently flooded with Avengers: Infinity War concept arts that offer fans details about how the directors Anthony and Joe Russo initially envisioned the film to be. The concept arts comes courtesy Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War — The Art of the Movie.

A newAvengers: Infinity War concept art reveals that the makers didn’t always have the plan of making Thor create Stormbreaker with the help of Etri. To recall, Thor along Groot and Rocket went to Nidavellir in search of a new weapon after his sister Hela crushed his mighty hammer Mjolnir with her bare hands in Thor: Ragnarok. This was the reason that Thor was without weapon throughout most of Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War.

However, his expedition to Nidavellir in Infinity War resulted in the dangerous formation of Stormbreaker. Surprisingly, this was not always the plan, at least according to an early concept art.

The concept art in question depicts an entirely different journey that Thor and his friends head to in a quest to find Stormbreaker. According to Rodney Fuentebella, Senior Visual Development Artist, initial plans envisioned Stormbreaker being found and not made as shown in the theatrical cut. Thor, Rocket, and Groot had to originally find the already constructed axe buried underground in the remains of what appears to be a dead creature.

However, the sequence was entirely changed in the final film. The film showed the Dwarf King Eitri (Peter Dinklage) helping Thor to make the powerful Stormbreaker. You can check out the concept art below.

Notably, another batch of unused concept arts showed The God of Thunder with some different weapons including a gun. Marvel’s creative team also revealed that Groot’s appearance in the film was mainly influenced by Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, who was actively involved during the development of Avengers: Infinity War.

Fans are now eagerly waiting for the next Avengers 4 film to find out the fate of their favorite Marvel characters.
