Aamir Khan’s big-ticket film Thugs of Hindostan has faced outright rejection in China. In terms of opening-weekend collection, the film is no match for the actor’s previous films Dangal and Secret Superstar. The producers of Thugs of Hindostan, Yash Raj Films, have sold the film to Chinese distributors for a solid figure of Rs 100 crore.

For a film that was thrashed by film critics and audience on its home turf, this is too big an amount. But given Aamir’s superstardom in China, the makers were able to obtain this heavy sum But with the film being almost Rs 70 crore away from the Rs 100 crore-mark, will distributors be able to recover their investment?

Looks unlikely if the current trend is anything to go by. Thugs of Hindostan, directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, was a box- office dud in India with lifetime collection of over Rs 151 crore.
