OneWordReview… Bharat: SMASH-HIT. An emotional journey that wins you over… Salman is the lifeline. He’s exceptional… Katrina excels… Ali Abbas Zafar blends humour + emotions wonderfully… Slight trimming needed… Get ready for Salmania.

Ali Abbas Zafar’s direction is topnotch. Unlike his previous films, this film is in a different zone but Ali handles it all like a pro. The film changes tracks every 15-20 minutes and to handle such a film is not a cakewalk. For instance, after the tragic Partition scene, the film gets a bit comic and even quite colourful in the circus sequence. The switch however happens quite seamlessly and this can be seen throughout the film. On the flipside however, the humour is forced in a few scenes and doesn’t make the desired impact. Also, the National Anthem scene seems unwarranted for and could have been written in a better way. [Read More]

Also, the ‘intention to inspire’ is a bit in your face. While emotional manipulation happens in every film, the fact that it’s evident here makes it a tad overbearing. The reverence is blatant. A little subtlety and crisp editing would have done wonders. Bharat is well-intentioned, entertaining and doesn’t succumb to the trappings of commercial potboilers. The fact that it tries a bit too hard to prove that, is its problem. [Read More]

Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif film is an out and out entertainer with solid emotional connect. The best thing about this Ali Abbas Zafar directorial is that it is a typical Salman Khan entertainer that most of us have enjoyed over the years and yet it is different from all those films. The reason Ali Abbas Zafar succeeds time and again and delivers a Salman Khan blockbuster is that he gives his fans what they want without losing his own voice as a filmmaker. The movie is filled with humour, often funny and sometimes cringe-worthy but throughout its runtime, what impacts the audience most is the solid emotional connect. The story itself is such that it'll instantly connect with everyone on a very humane level. [Read More]

The movie comes to a complete circle in the climax. There are no questions left unanswered, leaving you satisfied. You laugh, you weep and you just feel nice for Bharat. The movie is treated like a grandpa telling a couple of tales to his grand-kids and it does it beautifully. Watch Bharat for it will definitely bring a huge smile on your face. I never felt so heartwarming since Bhajrangi Bhaijaan. Suggestion: Watch it with an avid Salman Khan fan in a single screen for a memory of a lifetime. [Read More]
